Description:

UNENCUMBERED BUYERS ONLY
Built in 1908, Chestnut Tree House (formerly The Fifth House) is an interesting family home considered to be of local importance and architecturally significant. It was designed by Sir Banister Flight Fletcher who was president of RIBA (1929-31) and co-wrote A History of Architecture in 1897, now in its 20th edition, the first major work of history to include an overview of the architectural achievements of the 20th Century and still relevant today.

Sir Banister was an architect, barrister and author who was also involved in the Potters Bar Garden Estate development and designed a small number of individual houses in the area, of which only three survive.

Chestnut Tree House is a classic example of Sir Banister's work and still retains many period features including wonderful angular bay windows and a splendid verandah accessed from the drawing room. The bright and well-proportioned accommodation is arranged over two and half floors and would now benefit from some internal updating.

The house is set back from the road and occupies an attractive corner plot with a good-sized driveway and well-maintained gardens, including a wonderful paved terrace which spans the rear of the house, ideal for al fresco dining.
